Biography

Roy Matterson was born on 17 February 1897 in Laurens, Laurens, South Carolina, USA. He was the son of Ephriam Monroe Obadiah Little Berry Davis and Frances Elizabeth (Godfrey) Davis.[1]

In the 1900 census Roy Matterson (age 3) was living in Sullivan, Laurens, South Carolina.[2]

In the 1910 census Roy Matterson (age 13) was living in Youngs, Laurens, South Carolina.[5]

On 5 June 1918 Roy Matterson (age 21) was living in Laurens, South Carolina.[6]

In the 1920 census Roy Matterson (age 22) was living in Youngs, Laurens, South Carolina.[7]

When Roy Matterson was 24 he married Lucille Estelle Gentry on 23 November 1921. The couple had 5 children: Roy Everett Davis, Martha Viola Davis, Sarah Juanita Davis, Bennie Eldon Davis and Willie Paul Davis.[8]
