Thank you. We had a "Widow Davis" listed in an unprocessed roster of the 1849 Samuel Gully/Orson Spencer company. We didn't know who she was until your question prompted me to do further research. There was no vital or church event to help me add Rachel Hunter Davis's family to the database using circumstantial evidence. I did find obituaries for three of her children that mentioned that the family came together as a unit to Utah in 1849. One of the obituaries (for James J. Davis) identified the company as the Gully/Spencer company and that he drove an ox team for Spencer. It gave the family's date of arrival in Salt Lake as 23 Sep. 1849 which fits nicely with the arrival date of the company. All of this research is very time-consuming but it's great when we can document and add more individuals to the database. CONT CONT Mel Bashore CONT CONT P.S.: That DUP "Heart Throbs" source you cited is so full of mistakes (like people listed as arriving in Utah after they had died) that we do not accept it as a source. It does not cite where they obtained the information from to warrant putting them on the list. Your Rachel Hunter Davis is a case in point--it lists her as coming in 1848, yet we have wonderful documentary proof from several primary sources that she came in 1849. This is why we have established rigid documentation requirements. There are too many errors in the secondary sources.
