James Langston was born in Granville County, North Carolina, to John and Mary Agnes Mangum Langston. He served with his brothers Absolom and Solomon in Capt. Daniel Harris's company and William Eaton's regiment of the Granville County, North Carolina, militia in 1754. He received 150 acres on the Tarr river from his father on Dec. 25, 1760. The Granville County, North Carolina, tax list of 1768 recorded that James had one Negro slave by the name of Dina. After his wife Jane passed away, James married Joannah Davis in 1778. About 1820 after James's death, Joannah and most of the family moved over the river into Rabun County, Georgia. [1]
