Ailsey Davis is believed to have been born about 1728 at Milford Hundred, Cecil County, Maryland, the third child of of William Davis and Anne Walker Davis. While birth records have not been located, property and court records in Virginia (see William Davis) confirm the family relationships.
She married Elijah Teague in 1743 in Fredericksburg, Virginia where her parents had moved the family by 1738. She is believed to have passed away 1791. Elijah was also born Maryland (Elk Hundred, Cecil County) about 1726 and had moved to Virginia. Elijah, a Captain in the Continental Army, was killed near Black Jack, Newberry County, South Carolina. Varying accounts of his demise are found in his profile.
Ailsey resided during the American Revolution at Black Jack, Ninety Six District, South Carolina, now Newberry, and acted in the capacity of patriot by rendering material aid to the Army. She furnished provisions and forage for militia use.
Ailsey is one of the Women Patriots recognized by the Daughters of the American Revolution for her patriotic service of furnishing supplies during the U.S. Revolutionary War. [1]
Children
She is buried in the Teague Family Cemetery, Newberry, Newberry County, South Carolina. [2]
It has been stated several places that her maiden name has not been found and thus numerous maiden names have been suggested. However, her granddaughter Susannah Johnson in her book "Recollections of the Rev. John Johson" (Southern Methodist Publishing House, 1869) states on page 13, "My Grandmother Teague's maiden name was Ailsey Davis."[3] Given that this source is a granddaughter and this record is published less than a hundred years after the death of Ailsey this should probably be given strong consideration. The book gives no indication as to Ailsey's parentage or even place of birth. It is unknown if this source has for some reason been discounted by other researchers or if it was not available to them.
Note that the marriage of William Davis and Anne Walker was about 1724. This would make the occasionally seen birth date of Anne as about 1726 much more likely than the sometimes seen 1719. That would also place the birth in Maryland.
Also noted is a discussion at the apparently no longer updated Teague Family Resource site regarding the name Ailsey. This states that the name is akin to Elsie and that "Alice" is a corruption by those unfamiliar with the name in context of the time.
A statement added to the profile which gave her place of death as Davistown, Benton County, Alabama in 1850 is without documentation and would place her age as 125 at death and so has been removed from the profile.

Her father was Elijah Teague, a Captain in the old Revolutionary War; was captured by a squad of 8 Tories, and hung. He had 3 sons who followed the 8 Tories, and killed all of these except (1) Ned Mitchuseson." The account of his murder by Tories is found in "Quakers in S. After the murder of her husband, she continued to supply the militia from her farm. (In this record the C was miscopied as an E.) The next entry in the book is to her son Samuel Teague. [4][1]

Changed the parents to "uncertain". Update (3 Oct 2018): The line going further back has now been sourced (h/t Jack Day). What is currently needed is documentation that Ailsey is the daughter of William and Ann.
