He is listed on muster rolls of Fairfield Co., Connecticut, and, as a loyal British subject, served in the campaigns of 1756, 1757 and 1758 in the French and Indian Wars[4].
He married Deborah Hall in Connecticut in about 1759. Together they had 11 children in Connecticut, New York and Vermont:
He was 43 years old when he formally joined the British cause in 1781 under Captain Hubbell[5]. Thanks to Governor Jonathan Trumbull, Connecticut was no place to be a Loyalist; Hubbell's base of operations was Lloyd's Neck, New York, on Long Island's north shore, opposite Connecticut.
After six weeks with Captain Hubbell’s company from Connecticut, he was taken prisoner and held until peace prevailed[5]. He then settled in the town of Watervliet, Albany Co., about 5 miles north of Albany, where he is found on the 1790[6] and 1800 U.S. censuses[7].
After the U.S. Revolutionary War, Thaddeus first went to Willoughby Twp., Upper Canada, near Niagara Falls, in about July 1798 and purchased a farm there, according to an Upper Canada land petition[5]; in 1808, he asked to be added to a list of United Empire Loyalists and his request was approved[5][8]. Eleven of his children received land grants as sons and daughters of a United Empire Loyalist[9][10]. Among those petitioning for land were his daughters Jane and Lydia, who married Ostrander brothers[11].
On 10 February 1803, a road or highway was proposed to be built through Thorold Twp., Lincoln Co. (now Welland Co.), and in a description of the proposal, the land of Thaddeus Davis is mentioned as being on the "north side" of that proposed road[12]. He also had a son by the same name, so this also could have been his son.
Thaddeus Sr. passed away on 8 December 1824 in Thorold Twp., Upper Canada[8][13]. He was buried at Allanburg Graveyard in the Niagara Regional Municipality, where his tombstone reads:
