Per Babson:
"James Davis was appointed by the General Court ensign to the trainband in 1681; and, in 1689, received his commission as captain. No means now exist for ascertaining what active service he performed in these offices: but we find, that, in 1693, he was "very sickly " in consequence of sickness he received in the "country service in Sir Edmund Andres's time;" and that he received in 1699, from the General Court, a grant of Straitsmouth Island, for the charge and expense he had been at and the time he had spent in the late wars with the French and Indian enemy. He was repeatedly elected to the office of selectman; and, for eight years, served the town as its representative. His death took place May 1,1715. By his first wife Mehetabel who died June 9, 1666, he had four children; of whom two -- John, born in 1660; and James, 1663 -- lived to maturity. By his second wife (Elizabeth Batchelder of Wenham), whom he married Dec. 6,1666, he had seven children; one of whom (Ebenezer) became a citizen of considerable prominence. This wife died Jan. 1, 1697; and, Aug. 3 of the same year, Capt. Davis married his third and last wife (Mrs. Mary [Collins-see Babson, pp.72-73] Cook), who died March 9, 1725, aged seventy-nine."[8]

James Davis married Elizabeth Batchelder on December 6, 1666 [9] "Davis, James & Elizabeth Batchelder m. 6 of 10 month 1666 by the honoured magistrate Mr Samuel Simonds."[citation needed] They had the following children: Elizabeth, Abigall, Joseph, Susanna, Hannah, Ebenezer and Mark Davis. All born in Gloucester.[citation needed] "Elizabeth Davis wife of Captain James Davis deceased January 1 1696/7."

Selectman: 1691-94, 1698, 1702.[citation needed]

"Davis, Capt. James and (Mrs) Mary Cook, m. 3 August 1697 by Mr. John Emerson."[citation needed] James Davis married third to Mary Collins on 3 Aug 1697[8][10] at Gloucester.[11][12][13] They had no children.

He died on 1 May 1715.[14]

James Davis died on 1 May 1715[8] in Gloucester, Massachusetts.[12][15]

The John Davis who died at Newbury in 1675, was the husband of Eleanor, who administered his estate, and likely not the father of this James.

Attached parents John Davis and Alice Newman, see his father's profile for information.

Davis-5681 and Davis-27405 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, rank, location, and wife.

His parents should be Davis-22029 and Spring-19. There was a bad merge some time back that merged the two John's together erroneously.

According to sources on Davis-2277, John and Elinor Davis did not have a child, James. And they also weren't married as of the date of his birth shown here.

If you have other sources, for the parents listed on his profile, would you please post them to his bio?

Thank you, Sharon
