Biography
John Dawnay son of Henry Dawnay, 2nd Viscount Downe and his wife, Mildred Godfrey was born on 8 December 1686. Educated at Christ Church, Oxford he was returned to Parliament in 1713 as member for Pontefract and also for Aldborough. A petition was entered against his return for Aldborough but no decision was reached before Parliament was dissolved.
On 10 August 1724 he married Charlotte Louisa, daughter of Robert Pleydell, of Ampney Crucis, Gloucestershire. They had two sons before her death in 1729.
Dawnay died on 12 August 1740, aged 53.
