Julia was born on 1 March 1875 in Roaring Springs, Trigg County, KY. She was the daughter of Almont Dawson and Elizabeth (Wilson) Dawson.

Julia was the daughter of Almont and Elizabeth Wilson Dawson. She attended South Kentucky College in Hopkinsville. She married James Sidney Ledford, Jr., on Dec. 26, 1896 in Trigg Co., KY. She raised a family of 4 boys and 2 girls, all of whom lived into the 1980's and 1990's.

Mrs Julia Dawson Ledford, who would have been 65 early in March was buried Friday afternoon at Riverside Cemetery, Hopkinsville, following the funeral services at the Roaring Spring Christian Church conducted by the pastor, the Rev. R.L. Cave.
She was the wife of James Sidney Ledford. Mrs Ledford died following a paralytic stroke, Thursday.
She was a life long Christian, and was long active in the Roaring Spring church. Mrs Ledford was noted for her charitable activities and took a leading part in the church and Sunday School and was interested in missions.
The survivors are her husband, the following children: Almont Ledford of Arkansas; Mrs Frances Miller, Christian county; Mrs Grace Maddox, Memphis; James Sidney
Ledford, Trigg county; Richard Ledford, Roaring Spring and Ferrell Ledford, Memphis. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs Herman Crenshaw, Roaring Spring and Mrs Carl Moore, Memphis and a brother E. Fent Dawson, Roaring Spring.
She is also survived by four grand children

Grace was the daughter of James Sidney and Julia Dawson Ledford. She attended Roaring Springs school until she was 14 at which time she boarded in Cadiz to attend High School there. When she was 16 she moved to Memphis, Tn, to live with her Aunt, Susan Dawson Moore. There she attended Central High School and business college. She worked for a number of years for the Columbian Mutual Insurance Company until she married Ernest Warren Maddox in 1939. They left immediately after the wedding at 7:30 in the morning and the breakfast at Linden Avenue Christian Church, for Johnson City TN where Warrenwas to open the first Social Security office there on Jan. 2, 1940. He was drafted at age 32 so Grace followed him to Goldsboro, NC, Washington PA and finally to Montgomery AL during WWII. After the War they moved back to Memphis where their only child was born when she was in her 40th year. In 1949 they moved to Knoxville, TN, where Warren was the Dist. Mgr. of the Social Security office until 1961. They moved back to Memphis where he was the Dist. Mgr. of the Social Security office until 1978. They lived there together until she died in St. Francis Hospital of heart failure at age 91.
