Ellsworth Dayton, of 51 lander street Newburgh, New York. Died on Tuesday, July 3, 1956.he was 22 years old. The son of Oscar Dayton and Genevieve Baxter Dayton. Funeral on July 6, 1956 at 10:30 at parrot’s funeral home, one grand avenue, Newburgh NY. Interment at Woodlawn cemetery new Windsor New York.

Crash Kills Area Soldier on Route 32 A man identified by State Police as Pvt. Ellsworth Dayton residing at 100 Renwick St. was Killed instantly shortly before noon on Tuesday when the car in which he was riding alone, Collided with a truck on Route 32 just south of Newburgh. George R Partridge 33 Britain rd. Marlboro, driver of the Tractor Trailer which was own by Cooney Brothers of Orange told police the Dayton vehicle approached the oncoming truck at an angle, forcing the heavy vehicle into the ditch. The car hit the truck’s trailer, ripping off the left side of passenger side and flinging private Dayton onto the highway. State Police still waiting the arival of the coroner at noon. The Mishap occurred about 11:30am about 2.5 miles south from the city limits. The truck was proceeding downhill toward the Erie Railroad underpass at the foot of the grade. The car was northbound up the hill, approaching as if the driver had dozed, Partridge told police. The truck appeared little damage saved for its ditching and the passenger car was left scattered crossed the road in a badly unrecognized condition.
