Sir Bryce, the elder son, was treacherously slain by the English, with other Ayrshire barons, at Ayr in 1296. He left no issue, and was succeeded by his brother, David Blair or Blare, who was compelled to swear fealty to King Edward I. of England, in 1296, the year of his brother’s death. [1]
Bryce was the son of William Blair. He was a knight who served with William Wallace. He was taken prisoner and executed at Ayr in 1296. His younger brother David succeeded him.[2]

"III. Sir BRYCE BLAIR of that ilk, who joined the famous sir William Wallace in defence of the liberties of his country, but was at last taken prisoner by the English, and executed at Ayr, anno 1296, without issue. He was succeeded by his brother,
"III. DAVID BLAIR of that ilk, . . ."
Here Douglas cites "Abercrombie, vol. I p.525," for his support of what he says of Sir Bryce.
"III. Sir Bryce Blair of that Ilk, who nobly joined Wallace in defence of the liberties of his country, having been put to death in the Barns of Ayr, by the English, in 1296. Henry, the Blind Minstrel, in recording the tragedy, says --
"'Schir Bryss the Blair, next, with his eyme * in past;
On to the ded thai haistyt him full fast;
Be he entrit, hys hed was in the swar,
Tytt to the hawk, hangyt to ded ryght thar.'
"Having no issue, Sir Bryce was succeeded by his brother,
"IV. David Blair of that Ilk, . . . .
" * Eme, eim, an uncle by the mother's side."
