Gertrude, Abbess d'Hamage [1]
Delaforce states that Gertrude was the daughter of Theodebald, son of Agivald, Duke of Bavaria, who was one of the husbands of Walrada of Lombardy. [1]
Charles Cawley states that Theodebald married Waldrada, during the same year of his paralysis, but does not name Gertrude as a child. [2]
Gertrude founded the convent at Hamage near Douai and became the first abbess. [1]
Gertrude's status as abbess did not prevent her from having children by Ricomer de Bourgogne and then after his death, Sandregisisle.[1]
By Ricomer Gertrude was the mother of Bertrude, who married Clothaire II.[1]
Delaforce reports that by Sandregisisle Gertrude was the mother of Nanthild, who was the cousin and second wife of the powerful Dagobert I, the son of Clothaire II.[1] However, no documentation has been found to support this. Documentation by Cawley concerning Nanthild, tends to refute such a connection. This documentation [3] includes:
