Biography

William was born about 1733 in Bertie County in the Province of North Carolina. [1]

His parents were Samuel Deloach and Mary Boykin.

Edgecomb County was created in 1741 from Bertie County.

William was married to Purity Ruffin in North Carolina about 1763.

His father made his will in January of 1764. William was named as an heir in that will.

The French and Indian War also known as the Cherokee War in the carolinas was just ending. English colonists were involved in the French and Indian War against the French and native Americans/Indian tribes that were allied with the French.

The mother of William died in 1773.

Revolutionary War

In 1775 news came to the people of North Carolina about the events at Lexington and Concord in the Massachusetts Colony. A force of Tories were defeated at Moore's Creek Bridge in New Hanover County near Wilmington in Feb of 1776. In July the Continental Congress met and issued a declaration of independence from Great Britain. Charleston fell in South Carolina in 1780 and many battles followed in South Carolina and in North Carolina. The war ended in 1782 after the surrender of Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown in Virginia.

Estate of William Ruffin

William Deloach and his wife are mentioned in a petition in regard to the will of Purity's father, William Ruffin, in Bertie County in 1779.

The Petition of RICHARD RUFFIN, WILLIAM DELOACH and PURITY [Ruffin] his wife, JOHN HAYS and SARAH [daughter of Faith Ruffin] his wife, JAMES BARROW and PURITY [daughter of Faith Ruffin], his wife. Humbly shew that WILLIAM RUFFIN, father to RICHARD RUFFIN and PURITY, the wife of WILLIAM DELOACH, and grandfather to SARAH, wife of JOHN HAYS, and PURITY, wife of James BARROW was possessed in his affairs of a very considerable estate both real and personal and having made his last Will and Testament dated the first day of March one thousand seven hundred and seventy nine and sometime after to with on the ______ day of _____ in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy_________ departed this life and WILLIAM RUFFIN, one of the Executors mentioned in the said last Will and Testament, had the said Last Will and Testament proved, took out letters Testamentary thereon and took upon himself, the burthen of the Execution of the said last will and testament.

A source reference for Samuel Deloach indicates that he was married about 1732 and that his son William was born about 1733. More research is needed to confirm this and adjust the profile accordingly.

DeLoach-233 and DeLoach-32 appear to represent the same person because: Different death dates and death place, but these look like the same person. Same wife.
