Biography

Beatrix de Villers was the daughter and heir of Sir Robert de Villers, son of Richard de Villiers, a crusader under Edward I (NOTE: this does not make sense, as Edward I was not born until 1236. Do they mean under Richard I? Gunn-471 20:31, 1 October 2017 (EDT)). She inherited the estate Little Crosby, Lancashire. She was said to be a great beauty

She was under the control of King John "Lackland", and, according to tradition, hoped to marry him and become Queen. However, he spurned her and married her off to one of his barons, Robert de Molyneux.

She bitterly cursed the House of Molyneux and called down maledictions of misery, blasting their loves with tragedy.

Descendants from this marriage include the Earls of Sefton, Ireland, Teversall, and Nottinghamshire.

I respect and enjoy hearing family traditions. I regret throwing cold water on them, but, unless the dates given are way off, Beatrice has been falsely maligned in the story printed here in her biography claiming that Beatrice put a curse on the Molyneux family because she was in love with King john and wanted to be Queen, but John forced her to marry Robert instead. This story could not be true. John Lackland wasn't born until 1166, a year after Beatrice died

This is a direct quote from History, Genealogical and Biographical, of the Molyneux families.

I’ve been trying to piece the dates on Vincent Molyneux together and this text states he was a son of Beatrice which is impossible since he was returned as a Knight to Parliament in 1301, per the same source. Some strong dissonance going on. It lists his wife as Isabel Dugale.

I think there’s been mix ups between Vincent’s somewhere.

De Villiers-21 and DeVilliers-24 appear to represent the same person because: I believe these represent the same person. However, I am unsure as to which spouse she married and thus her real children, or if she married and had issue with both. Robert MOLYNEUX and Richard BOTELER as husbands. I will research the husbandry some more.

I believe there were two Beatrices, one the daughter of Robert, and one the daughter of Matthew, and they were distant cousins.
