Biography

Katherine Dutton was the daughter of Sir Hugh Dutton of Halton, Cheshire, and his wife, Joan, the daughter of Sir Robert de Holland.[1]

Katherine married Thomas Maisterson of Wich Mallbank or Nantewyche (Nantwich), Cheshire, England,[2] esq, who was the son and heir of Robert Maisterson of Wich Mallbank and his wife, Cecilia.[1]

Katherine and Thomas had children:[1]

  1. Richard Maisterson, esq, born 1374 (aged 60 in 12 Henry VI, 1433-4[2]), in 1395 and 25 Henry VI seneschall to Thomas Holland, duke of Exeter for his manors of Sponley and Adderley in co Salop, married Joanna, the daughter of Ralph Egerton of Wrinehill co Stafford;
  2. Thomas Maisterson, esq, seneschall with his brother in 1420;

King Richard II appointed Katherine's husband, Thomas, Escheator of Cheshire on 13 February 1390-1 and Attorney General of Cheshire on 29 October 1391.[3] Thomas fought in the French wars from the time of Edward III to Henry V, and died at a great age early in the reign of Henry VI, circa 1427.[1]

This Katherine Dutton and Sir Hugh Dutton's daughter, Catherine, cannot be the same person. Sir Hugh's daughter would have been 74 years of age when Richard was born.
