Aquilinus was born about 0430 at Lyons; his father was from the Rustici family, the son of Decimius Rusticus; his mother is unknown. Aquilinus was a friend and contemporary of Sidonius Apollinaris, as their fathers and grandfathers had been.[1]
His son was (St) Rusticus, who became Archbishop of Lyon.[2]
In many online genealogies his wife, and the mother of his son, Rusticus, is given as Fuscina, the daughter of Hesychius (I), Bishop of Vienne. However there are no primary sources or even reliable secondary sources for this relationship, and the approximate birth dates of Fuscina and Rusticus would indicate they were contemporaries, rather than mother and son.
Aquilinus is a Roman name, from the root word aquila, "eagle," with the meaning of "eagle-like"
