Biography

In the reign of King John, he received lands from Hugh Massey and his daughter Margery, viz. the whole lordship of Stretford, to be held of William de Ferrers, Earl of Derby. He also obtained a grant of lands in Stretford from Richard fitzAde de Urmston, as well as lands in other places.

"In the troubled times of the Baronial wars with King John, he divided his land between his elder son Henry and younger son Geoffrey. Henry got the lands of Trafford, Stretford and the whole of the lands near Manchester (which had then become of considerable extent), while Geoffrey received the manors of Chadderton (Catherton) and Foxdenton." (Ref: Burke)

Court record of 3 Nov 1221 - To the sheriff of Lancaster. Richard son of Henry of Trafford has made fine with the king by 20s. for his relief of the land formerly of Henry, his father, whose heir he is, which Richard ought to hold of the king, for which he has terms at the Exchequer. Order that, having accepted security from Richard for rendering the aforesaid fine to the king, he is to cause him to have full seisin without delay of all lands that he ought to hold from the king in his bailiwick and that are in the king’s hand. Witness H. de Burgh etc." (Ref Henry III Fine Rolls)

De Mailly-18 and Trafford-30 do not represent the same person because: Nothing to indicate these represent the same person.

Trafford-138 and Trafford-30 appear to represent the same person because: Christina's daughter, Annabilla De Trafford, and Richard's son, Henry De Trafford, were siblings.
