Adm. Sir John Beresford was a member of the aristocracy in England.

Admiral Sir John Poer Beresford, 1st Bt. was born illegitimately in 1766. He was the son of George de la Poer Beresford, 1st Marquess of Waterford. He married, firstly, Mary Molloy, daughter of Captain Anthony James Pye Molloy, on 22 Jun 1809. He married, secondly, Harriet Elizabeth Peirse, daughter of Henry Peirse, on 17 August 1815. He married, thirdly, Amelia Baillie, widow of Samuel Peach and daughter of James Baillie, on 26 May 1836. He died on 2 October 1844.

Admiral Sir John Beresford, 1st Baronet, GCH (1766 – 2 October 1844) was an officer in the Royal Navy who rose to the rank of Second Sea Lord. He was a Tory politician in the United Kingdom. Beresford joined the Royal Navy in 1782. During the War of 1812, he served as captain of HMS Poictiers, during which time he ineffectually bombarded the town of Lewes, Delaware. More importantly, Poictiers participated in an action on October 18, 1812 where, four hours after USS Wasp, commanded by Jacob Jones, captured HMS Frolic, Capt. Beresford hove in sight, captured Wasp and recaptured Frolic, and brought both to Bermuda.

He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Tower and Sword of Portugal (K.T.S.) He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) He gained the rank of Admiral of the White. He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Hanoverian Order (G.C.H.) He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) He was created 1st Baronet Beresford, of Bagnall, co. Waterford [U.K.] on 21 May 1814.

De la Poer Beresford-1 and Beresford-654 appear to represent the same person because: didnt think poo was really part of last name thought it misspelled

the DNB does not have "Power" (aka de la Poer) name on his or his brother's article, he's just Beresford. Pretty sure this was an error in thepeerage.com (or Burke's).
