Biography

- Ebenezer Dearborn was born 03 Oct 1679 in Hampton, Rockingham, New Hampshire to parents Thomas Dearborn and Hannah Colcord [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] #S39
- He lived in Chester, Rockingham, New Hampshire. [6]
- On 7 Oct 1703 the clerk of Hampton Falls, Rockingham, New Hampshire recorded the marriage of Ebenezer Dearborn to Abigail Sanborn [7], dau of Joseph Sanborn and Mary Gove [1] [8] [9] [10] [3] [4] [5]
- Residence 1700-1882 • Rockingham; Strafford, New Hampshire.
- 1731 awarded commission as lieutenant. [7]
The following points are recounted in History of Rockingham... as cited [11]
- Sept 24 1719, the "Society for Settling the Chestnut Country", residents of Portsmouth and Hampton New Hampshire, signed a petition to the King of England's official commander over the province of New Hampshire for a charter forming a new town of Chester. Among the 101 signers of this petition was Ebenezer's brother, Jonathan Dearborn.
- May 1722, the King of England approved the Royal Charter creating the township of Chester. Jonathan & Ebenezer Dearborn are listed among the original Grantees of the new township of Chester, NH. (Note that also listed in this record - Nathaniel Sanborn, Elijah and Samuel Smith, Nathaniel Bachelder, and several others who's children married into (my) families' descendant tree.)
- Sept 29 1721 the Proprietors voted that the owners to the creek and falls shall use it to build a grist mill.
- 1731, mill owner, James Basford, sold 1/4 of his grist mill ("old saw-mill") to Ebenezer Dearborn. Basford also sold shares to another resident. But a couple years later had "problems with the proprietors". They agreed to mediation and in 1735, Ebenezer deeded his share in the "old saw-mill" to his son's Ebenezer Jr, Benjamin, Thomas & Michael. In 1734, Ebenezer and his sons convey 4/6ths of the "old saw-mill" to Thomas Wells for Bills of Credit in the sum of 22 pounds. Note that in the original land charter, the stands of "mast timber", which comprised a great portion of "the Chester country", was specifically mentioned as belonging to Chester.
- April 4 1745, school-building discussions lead to a vote to split the town's borders. Ebenezer was among the 14 who cast a descending vote. But split it was, with Ebenezer's properties now located in the center of the township. And a year later, in 1746, the Town Committee paid (among others) Ebenezer 19 pounds for boards. The account next covers abt 20-years of school expenses and there are no more entries naming Ebenezer.
- Ebenezer died 15 Mar 1772 in Hampton, Rockingham, New Hampshire [1] [12] [5] [3] [4] #S39 #S191

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Ebenezer by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Ebenezer:

* Dearborn-249 parent IDs are Colcort-12 & Dearborn-23.

* Dearborn-60 parent IDs are Colcort-12 & Dearborn-23.

  • Dearborn-249 birth is 3 Oct 1679
  • Dearborn-60 birth is 3 Oct 1679
  • trying to clear up the parent's profiles showing two Ebenezer's, b. same day.
    • Why not?

Dearborn-60 and Dearborn-249 appear to represent the same person because: someone suggested the merge could not complete because the two profiles have different parents. But the parents on both Dearborn-60 and Dearborn-249 have same name, same DOB, same place of birth, same siblings....

There is no confusion or conflict. This is a clear case for merge.

Dearborn-249 and Dearborn-60 do not represent the same person because: Different parents, therefore cannot represent the same person.

I believe this Ebenezer was the son of Thomas and Hannah Colcord Dearborn. See the SAR application that I posted on the bio. Please edit as there is a pending merge to be completed.
It appears this profile was attached to the wrong parents. Henry was 1st-born son of Godfrey Dearborn. Doubt the link will open for non-members... so will upload a document that shows Godfrey's 2nd son, Thomas, was this Ebenezer's father.

see ALSO, bottom of page 5 here: [1]

Ebenezer's place of birth was changed from New Hampshire to Massachusetts w no sources supporting the claim.

The place of birth in his biography remains New Hampshire.

Reference.com tells us that New Hampshire was a planned colony founded in 1623 by Captain John Mason (https://www.reference.com/history/new-hampshire-founded-ff23ea769224069d)

Yet Wikipedia says that in 1680 the province of New Hampshire was formally separated from Massachusetts, with Norfolk County forming the core.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norfolk_County,_Massachusetts Colony)

except for research book names, this profile lacks any biographical sources.

Dearborn-249 and Dearborn-60 appear to represent the same person because: This merge was proposed some time ago. It is unsettled business. I agree with the mother and father of Dearborn-249. But it since all else appear to match up, it is evident this is a duplicate profile. Perhaps a dialog can ensue to sort out proofs of Dearborn-249's parentage?

At the least, the duplicate (same birth, marriage, children) can be joined with the older profile. Proving parent can proceed from there?

So far as I can tell, sources for this profile are unlinked to any biographical details.

Dearborn-249 is duplicate of Dearborn-60. Same DOB, same wife (Abigail Sanborn). Kids and sibs are confused, but Dearborn-60 appears more developed.

Dearborn-249 seems a good candidate for merge into Dearborn-60.
