Biography

Marjorie Debo was born in Eden, NY in 1926. She grew up there and graduated from Eden High School in 1944. She went on to study at Bryant-Straton College in Buffalo, NY. After working locally in the retail sector, she joined the US State Department Foreign Service and was posted to Tehran, Iran. She met William 'Billy' P. Williams there; they worked together at the American Embassy. They were married at the American Mission in Tehran, Iran in 1952. Their next posting was in Bonn, Germany, where she had her first child. They were subsequently posted to Tokyo, Japan. They then returned to the U.S. to raise their three children and eventually settled in the New York City area and developed a business representing education publishers, which Marjorie contributed to. Marjorie passed away in 2011 in Long Island, NY.

Majorie J. (Debo) Williams

WILLIAMS- Majorie J. (Debo), of Hauppauge (aka Marjorie Jay) born in Eden, NY, passed away August 19, 2011 of cardiac arrest. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Billy P. Williams, whom she met and later married on Sept. 8, 1952 in Tehran, Iran where both were serving at the United States Embassy. Also surviving are sons Mark and David, daughter Suzanne, 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was cremated and services were private. St. James Funeral Home handled the cremation.

"Marjorie J. (Debo) Williams. Marjorie J. (Debo) Williams, aka Marjorie Jay, of Hauppauge, passed away on August 19, 2011, at the age of 84, after a long illness of cardiac arrest. She lived a full and interesting life. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Billy P. Williams, and sons Mark and David Williams, of St. James, and daughter Suzanne Williams, of Hauppage, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Born in Eden, NY, on November 8, 1926, she graduated from Hamburg, NY High School, attended Bryant-Straton College in Buffalo and worked at Hengerer's Dept. store as a product copywriter and secretary to the advertising department manager. Marjorie was accepted into the Foreign Service of the U.S. Dept. of State and posted to Tehran, Iran where she met future husband, Billy P. Williams, also in the Foreign Service at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. After posting to the Embassy in West Germany and Tokyo, Japan, they returned to the U.S. and resigned from the Foreign Service to raise their family in the U.S. During a varied and successful business career, they lived in Hamburg, NY, Fairfax, VA, Southington, CN, and Hauppauge, NY. She used the professional name of Marjorie Jay while working as a partner in Billy Paul Williams Associates, an educational publisher's representative firm. Cremation was private. Mrs. Williams funeral arrangements were professionally supervised by the St. James Funeral Home."

Williams of Ockler Pl. is aughter of an article appearing in the August issue of Jack and Jill, a children's magazine published monthly. Her article is entitled 'Roly-Poly Doll from Japan' and describes a particular type of doll which originated in Japan. The article also include the Japanese words and the English translation of a song sung by the Japanese children when they play a special game with the doll. This is Mrs. Williams first article to be published in a juvenile magazine. She has written material for Living for Young Homemakers, My Baby Magazine, The American Home, The Christian Science Monitor and Women's News Service. At one time she was employed by the State Department foreign service and worked in Tehran, Iran, where she met her husband who was then employed by the American Embassy there. They lived in Iran, Germany and Japan for five years. They are the parents of three children, David Ramsar, 11, Mark Bonn, 7, and Suzanne Nara, 3.
