Sarah was born in 1815. She was the daughter of William and Sarah Deighton.
She married Thomas Sell on 29 July 1835 in Saint Leonard's, Shoreditch, London, England.[1]
Her husband Thomas emigrated from England to New Zealand on the ship Will Watch. Sarah, along with her five year old daughter Mary Ann and two year old son Thomas Edward, followed later arriving in early 1842, on the ship Lloyds.[2] (The Will Watch brought out the men to start off the settlement of Nelson in the South Island, with the ship Lloyds following with the families of the men.)
Sadly their two year old son Thomas passed away on the voyage. Sarah also gave birth to a set of triplets on the ship (a boy and two girls) who survived for only a day or two.[3]
Her husband either passed away, or returned to England as Sarah's next child was born in 1844 to John Walden.
Sarah's second marriage, to John Walden, wasn't registered until 1868.
They went on to have about seven children together.
Her husband John passed away in 1885.
She passed away in 1892 at the age of 77.
