Deleting a Person or Account

Before you delete information, keep in mind:

1.) WikiTree is very conservative about privacy. Profiles of all living people — and all nuclear relatives of living people — are protected. You need to be on their individual Trusted Lists to access their family trees and other information.

2.) Information about non-living people is freely available through US Census records, the Social Security Death Index, etc. If your family tree isn't already on the web, it will be someday.

3.) Information about living people — a shocking amount of it — is now readily available through inexpensive "people search" services, credit checks, etc.

If you do want to delete information simply click the "edit" tab on a profile.

On the edit page you can delete a biography, remove dates and places, etc. You can disconnect family relationships with the edit links in the right column.

For names, abbreviate them to an initial or use "X" or "Anonymous". You may consider leaving first names. If the profile doesn't have your last name and no personal information, it's a profile of nobody.

Deleting your e-mail address will close your WikiTree account.

Contact us if you have questions, especially concerning removing information about children under 13. Please include your WikiTree ID so we can identify you. You can find this by clicking the Watchlist link at the top of this page.
