Mary Elizabeth Dellinger was born about 15 May 1800 in Lincoln County, North Carolina, United States, and died there about 1831. Her tombstone at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery is very weathered.[1]
Spouse: Christopher Carpenter
Christopher Carpenter executed a Lincoln County, North Carolina, marriage bond on 26 September 1818, naming his intended bride as Mary E. Dellinger.[2]
The marriage is confirmed in her father Jacob Dellinger's estate proceedings. When Jacob Dellinger's real estate was divided among his heirs in July 1838, Christopher, as widower of Mary Elizabeth and father of her minor children, received Lot 1 on Buffalo Creek consisting of 22 acres including the gristmill, sawmill and millpond valued at $650.[3]
Children of Christopher and Mary Elizabeth (Dellinger) Carpenter
Lore according to author Robert C. Carpenter[4] is that Christopher and Elizabeth (Dellinger) had five children in all and that two died at birth unnamed. He located two infant graves at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery for unnamed children: “In Memory of an infant son of C & M Carpenter” and “In Memory of an infant daughter of C & M Carpenter.”
The estate papers of Jacob Dellinger state his daughter had “minor children” (plural) surviving her in 1837, and birth dates of the following children fall within the period of Christopher and Elizabeth's marriage.
