Biography

Richard is frequently said to have had two wives. See his profile. However, if one eliminates Alice Beggarly/Daniel who was probably not his wife but the wife of another Richard Beckley,[1] There is no reason to believe he had more than one wife Frances ____.

Frances Unknown wife of Richard Beckley

FRANCES (Unknown) BECKLEY was born about 1615 in England (probably). She married RICHARD BECKLEY in c. 1640 in New Haven, Connecticut. They had at least five children per New Haven baptism records where she is called SISTER BECKLEY, wife of RICHARD BECKLEY. She is mentioned in the will of her husband who died in 1690 in Wethersfield. It is assumed she survived him. No proof of a connection to DEMING known.

The alleged Francis Deming wife of Richard Beckley

"Richard Beckley ... m. Frances Deming, dau. of Hon. John Deming." (pp 1330-1331) "Hon. John Deming ... His dau. Frances m. Richard Beckley and it is thought that she was mother of ... but dates are lacking, to prove the fact. (pp 1332-1333) [2] BECKLEY ... RICHARD, New Haven 1639, rem. to Wethersfield bef. 1668, had prob. two ws. of wh. the latter was a d. of John Deming"[3]

Alleged father: John Deming
Alleged mother: Honor Treat
Alleged spouse: Richard Beckley

This Francis also appears in the "History of Ancient Wetherfield" (one of Torrey's sources) as married to Richard Beckley when in fact, the most logical analysis of existing data in John Deming's 1690 will shows that it was John's daughter Hannah who married John Beckley. This analys is shown on page 55[4] and contrasts to information in the same book on page 272 showing "Francis" and Richard Beckley. Page v.2. 272 also states that John Deming had a daughter Hannah who died unmarried in 1713 when in fact that seems to be Hannah Deming, daughter of John's son Samuel Deming.

Deming-53 and Unknown-329314 appear to represent the same person because: Frances Deming doesn't exist.

John Deming had a daughter who married a Beckley. It was thought by at least one researcher that John's daughter was married to Richard Beckley whose wife was named Francis. However, the accepted version is that John's daughter was Hannah who married John Beckley (Richard's son). This profile needs to be merged away.
