Biography

Phebe Denison was born 22 Jun 1741 at New London, Connecticut. She was the seventh child of Daniel and Rachel Starr Dension [1].

Phebe Denison was baptized in New London on Aug. 2, 1741[2] .

Her first marriage was on 11 Jun 1761 at Groton, Connecticut, to her step-brother, Ebenezer Avery (Ebenezer was her mother's third husband's son, Ebenezer Avery Jr.). They had 6 children, as profiled.

After Ebenezer was killed in 1781 in battle at Ft. Griswold, Phebe married Jonathan Fish. The date of their marriage is uncertain; their online memorial sites state that they were married in 1782, however Jonathan's first wife lived until 1790. Probative work is encouraged.

Her will was executed on December 24, 1818. In her will she left all of her property and possessions to her daughters, Lucy Morgan & Elizabeth Minor, her sons, Ebenezer, Hezekiah, Henry, & Cyrus Avery, and her granddaughters, Judy Lucy Morgan, Julia Stoddard, Phoebe D., and Hannah Minor .

Phebe (Denison/Avery) Fish died 29 December of 1818 in Groton, New London County, Connecticut. Her grave is in Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, Groton, New London County, Connecticut, USA [3].

Notes

Phebe Denison was descended from Elder Brewster of the "Mayflower" through both her mother & her father.
