Arthur Lawrence (Art) Denny Born 23 Feb 1887 in Star city Indiana Son of Scott Denny and Ida May Summers Arthur Denny Dies In Local Hospital Succumbs To Skull Fracture and Internal Injuries After Star City Crossing Crash; Son Leaps To Safety. Arthur (Art) Denny, 49. of R. R- 1, Star City, succumbed at St. Joseph's hospital at 2:40 o'clock Friday morning to injuries suffered Thursday night when a light truck he was driving was demolished by a fast Pennsylvania freight train at Star City. The accident happened about 8:30 o'clock and Denny never regained consciousness. Death was attributed to a skull fracture and internal injuries. He also suffered arm and leg fractures and Innumerable cuts and bruises from head to toe. Vehicle Stalls on Tracks Omer Denny, fourteen year old son of the Pulaski county farmer, escaped by leaping from the machine after It stalled on the tracks. Witnesses stated that Denny, traveling east Into Star City, apparently saw the train, attempted to atop the small vehicle and the auto slid on to the track. Its engine dead. The son, seeing the danger, leaped to safety and the father made frantic efforts to climb from the car before the southbound train bore down upon him. The vehicle, a small model that had been converted into a homemade truck, was knocked one hundred feet down the track while the driver was thrown clear of the tracks and the wreckage. He was found along the right-of-way about sixty feet from the crossing. The Dennys were en route to Star City to purchase groceries for the family. Four See Tragedy Witnessing the crash were Donald Perish, Dewey Wiseley, Ora Perish and Dewitt Grain. The four were standing in front of the Westside garage, only a short distance from the scene. They were the first to reach the Injured man. The train was slopped and the crew gave Resistance. Dr. H. J. Hallech and the Frye and Lange ambulance of Winamac were summoned and the Injured man was rushed to the local hospital. The train was in charge of S. C. Patton, 2231 Spear street, conductor and C. H. Allen, 515 Fitch street, engineer. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Sleek Denny, six children. Florence and Freda of Peru, Faye, John, Kenneth and Omer all at home; four sisters, Mrs. W. E. Kirkpatrick of 138 Eel River avenue. Mrs. Joseph Liming of Star City and Mrs. R. C. McLochlin and Mrs. Lee Hartwick, both of Akron. Ohio,, and two brothers, Simon of west of Royal Center and James of Star City. The deceased was the son of the late Scott and Ida Denny and was born east of Thornhope. Prior to moving to the farm west of Thornhope Mr. Denny lived east of Logansnort and west of Royal Center. Funeral services will he held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Victor Chapel east of Thornhope and burial will be made In the adjacent cemetery.
