Edward Denny, 1st and last Earl of Norwich was born on 15 August 1569.2 He was the son of Henry Denny and Honora Grey. He married Lady Mary Cecil, daughter of Thomas Cecil, 1st Earl of Exeter and Dorothy Neville, circa 1590. He died on 24 October 1637 at age 68, without male issue.
He was invested as a Knight in 1589. He was educated at St. John's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England. He was Member of Parliament (M.P.) Westmorland and Essex in 1592. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Westmorland from 1592 to 1593. He held the office of High Sheriff of Hertfordshire from 1602 to 1603. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Essex in 1604. He was created 1st Lord Denny, of Waltham [England by writ] on 27 October 1604. He was created 1st Earl of Norwich [England] on 24 October 1626.2 On his death, his Earldom expired, although the Barony, having been created by writ of summons, passed to his deceased daughter's son.
