Biography

James Denton was born in 1795 in Denton's Valley, which sits right on the border of Virginia and Tennessee. He was the son of Deborah Gerow, age 32, and James Denton, age 35.

He married Nancy Marks in 1819. They had 11 children in 21 years. In the 1830 census, they are living in Sullivan County, Tennessee, and there are thirteen people in the family. [1]

He died in 1841 in Washington County, Virginia, at the age of 46, and was buried in Sullivan, Tennessee.
