Biography

"Polly told her children that, as a small child, she remembered Daniel Boone visiting their home and staying overnight with them in the KY wilderness. Miles Hunt (her grandson) said she was the daughter of James Denton and a cousin to Col. John Tipton.'[2]

Mary (Polly) Denton and John Tipton Hunt were married about 1787 in Washington District, Tennessee. Her husband's will called her Polly. Her obituary in the Western Christian Advocate called her Mary. Her tombstone says "Mary Hunt, consort of Col. John Hunt". Mary's obituary also said she has 10 sons and 5 daughters- 3 were dead as of 1843 was signed by her son (?) William Hunt in Western Christian Advocate, 1843, Nov. 24:

"Mary Hunt, b. 13 Oct. 1769 Shanadre Co. VA; d. 4 Apr. 43 in 74th year, near Hagerstown, Henry Co. IN; mar. in 18th year, Hunt, John, Col. (of Fleming Co. KY) (deceased).Issue: 10 sons, 5 daughters. (3 of the 15 are dead). Signed William Hunt."^[1]

Seven Denton siblings married seven Hunt siblings

Sarah, Ann, Mary, Nancy, Deborah, William, and Joseph Denton (all children of James Denton and Elizabeth Harper Smith) married Abraham, William Basil, John Tipton, Reuben, Benjamin, and Dradena Hunt (all children of John Hunt and Mary Overall). First Sarah married Basil, and then Ann married him after Sarah died.
