Will of Hannah Treadwell, Smithtown, Suffolk Co., New York, 1744[2]

In the Name of God Amen The twentieth day of December in the year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty Four I Hannah Treadwell widow and relict of Thomas Treadwell now of Smithtown in the County of Suffolk and province of New York being in perfect health of body and sound mind and meory thanks be given unto God therefor calling into mind the mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed unto all Men once to dye do make and ordain this my last will and testament That is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it and for my Body I recommend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the General resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form Imprimus I give and bequeath unto my well beloved son Timothy Treadwell with whom I now live to him and his heirs forever all my Right Title and Interest in anad to all the buildings upon the Farm where he now lives at Sunken Meadows Item I give to my Eldest Daughter Elizabeth Halsted Twenty pounds current lawful money of New York to her own proper use and Disposal as also one third part of my wearing apparel and one equal third part of my linnen and household furniture Item I give and bequeath to my Grand daughter Phebe Treadwell viz my Daughter Charity's daughter I give and Bequeath Ten Pounds current lawfull Money of New York as also a sixth part of my wearing apparel as also a sixth part of my Linnen and household furniture Item I give and Bequeath to the sister of the said Phebe viz my Grand Daughter Mary Smith that is to say the other Daughter of my said Daughter Charity the Sume of Ten Pounds current Money of New York as also a sixth part of my wearing apparel as also a sixth part of my Linnen and Household furniture Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Hannah Sands Twenty Pounds current Money of New York with a third part of my wearing apparel as also a third part of my linne and haousehold furniture Item I give unto my beloved son Thomas Star Treadwell the Sum of Forty Pounds lawfull Money of New york over and above his equal proportion with his other brethren and my further Will and Pleasure is that after the payment of the above Legacies the remainder of my estate be equally Divided betwixt my beloved sons Benjamin Treadwell and Samuel Treadwell and Thomas Star Treadwell and my Grand Children viz. Thomas Treadwell & John Treadwell and Samuel Treadwell and Mary Treadwell being the Children of my beloved Son John Treadwell deceased that is to say that the Four children of my said Son John shall among them all have an equal share of my estate with their Uncles Benjamin and Samuel to be equally divided among my said grand children Thomas and John and Samuel and Mary Item I give and bequeath unto my son in law Benjamin Smith the sum of Five Shillings Current Money of New york And of this my last will and testament I make constitute and Appoint my beloved Sons Benjamin Treadwell and Timothy Treadwell to be my only Executors and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and Disannul all and every other former Testaments Wills Legacies and Executors by me in any wise before this time named willed and Bequeathed Ratifying and Confirming this and no toher to be my last will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Twentieth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty four
