From THE YAZOO CITY WHIG, Yazoo City, MS. Jan 24, 1840. Married in Attala County on Tuesday evening, the 14th by the Rev. John Black of Lexington, Mr. John M. Devlin of Yazoo City to Miss Mary Morten Haden of Russellville, KY.
In the 1850 U.S. Census, Slave Schedule, Yazoo County, Miss., he is shown as owning two slaves, on female Mulatto, age 45, and one nine year old male.
Was a cotton factor, in business under the name of "Pope and Devlin", later "Jennings and Devlin", and later just "J.M. Devlin".
A member of the Yazoo Masonic Lodge, Yazoo City, Miss., in 1849.
