Biography

Bernardo di Miceli, the son of Maestro Calogero di Miceli, misuratore (a land surveyor, one who measures the lands and establishes boundaries for the Signori [feudalists]), and Salvatrice Carrabba, is born 21 April 1865 in his parents' home on via San Leonardo in Corleone.[1][2]

Bernardo's double cousin of the same name is the godfather of Michele Navarra.

Bernardo marries Caterina Riina, daughter of Gioachino Riina and Giuseppa di Miceli, on 29 October 1890. Their marriage record contains a dispensation required due to second degree consanguinity in the maternal line. The witnesses are Don Michaelangelo Zabbia and Pietro Cutrera.[3]

Caterina and Bernardo have at least four children: two daughters named Salvatrice (1893 and, Calogero, and Giuseppa.

The first daughter named Salvatrice, after her paternal grandmother, dies at three months of age on 11 September 1893.

Calogero is born 25 September 1894 at 25 via Misericordia. This record calls his father a sensale (a broker or agent).[4] Calogero is named after his paternal grandfather.

The second daughter named Salvatrice is born 9 December 1898 and baptized two days later. Her godparents are Calogero and Salvatrice di Miceli, brother and sister.[5]

Giuseppa, named after her maternal grandmother, dies at seven months of age on 5 November 1903.
