Biography

Gerald Louis Charles Dickens was born to Henry Fielding & Marie-Therese Louise (Roche) Dickens on the 13th October 1879 and he was baptised on the 9th November that year at the French Chapel in Little George Street, Portman Square Mayfair in London England.

In 1881 he was living with his mother and two older siblings and without his barrister father at 8, Cleveland Terrace Gardens, Kensington, London.

By 1891 h was 11 and was living with both his parents, four siblings and four servants at 15, Ledworth Square, Chelsea, London.

He was educated at Stubbington House School before joining the naval college HMS Britannica at Dartmouth in Devon in 1894 as a Naval Cadet, rising slowly in the ranks and many postings. A rise to sub-lieutenant in 1899 was followed by a number of further postings prior to being raised to Lieutenant in 1902 and to Commander at the outbreak of the the First World War seeing action at Gallipoll.

In 1911 he was aged 31 and was living with his mother, four younger siblings and seven servants at 2 Egerton Place, Kensington, London.

He married Kathleen Pearl Birch during the first quarter of 1915 at Kensington in London.

His promotion to Captain came in 1919 during which year he was appointed as a Commander of Bath (KCB).

In 1921 he was aged 41 and they were living with their two sons Peter bc1917 and Claud bc1920 and two servants at 1, Kent Avenue, Ealing, Middlesex.

Following a number of positions he was appointed to the Directing Staff at the Imperial Defence Collect before acting as a Naval Aide de Camp to his majesty King George V which led him in in 1932 to being Director of Naval Intelligence until 1835 and his rise to vice-admiral in 1937. He was appointed as a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) in 1937, placed on the retired list in 1938 and appointed to Admiral in 1940.

In 1934 he was one of a number of family members who claimed ownership of the copyright in his grandfather's work "Life of our Lord" but failed to gain the verdict.

In 1939 he and his wife were living with four other unexplained people at Lodge Farm Woodfalls Redlynch, Redlynch, Morgan's Vale, Salisbury in Wiltshire.

He died at the age of 83 after a heart attack on the 19th November 1962 in London and was buried at see from HMS Kirkliston off Chatham.
