What is the evidence for the daughter of Moses and Hannah being the wife of John Dickinson? I see this unsourced claim elsewhere, and it is certainly possible that the Hannah Wait born in Springfield, MA in 1767 was the Hannah who married John Dickinson in 1788 in Dummerston, VT, as the ages fit. But for instance there is a Hannah Wait who marries Tristram Rutherford in Bernardston, MA in 1791.
There is a widow Chloe Wait who remarried in 1802 in Dummerston. John and Hannah named their first child Chloe. Possible connection?
John Dickinson is next to the grave of Hannah. Her stone establishes her birth year. Have birth records establishing Moses Wait as her father and Hannah as her mother. Records establish Moses Wait and Hannah Kellogg as married.
Maybe I wasn't clear. I'm not doubting that a Hannah Wait was born in Springfield, MA in 1767, the daughter of Moses Wait and Hannah Kellogg, nor that a Hannah Wait married John Dickinson in 1788 in Dummerston, VT, nor that the buried Hannah Dickinson is this latter Hannah Wait. I'm wondering what the evidence is that the two Hannah Waits are the same person. The towns are not that close.
The Hannah (Wait) Dickinson gravestone says she died in 1822 in the 55th year of her life, which is a good match for the 1767 Hannah's birth. But that's not really proof. There are other Hannah Waits known from around the same time, and probably more not documented, and ages are often inaccurate. For instance, I linked above a Hannah Wait who married in 1791 in Massachusetts, which is much closer, and could also be the 1767 Hannah.
I cannot find evidence that Moses and Hannah ever lived in Dummerston, or even were ever in Vermont, or any other reason why their daughter would be there.
The text identifies Hannah Wait as the daughter of Ebenezer Wait and Abigail Jaynes who was born 1742 and died in 1808. What is the evidence that it was this Hannah, or that such a daughter even existed? The sources don't seem to support it. This identification would mean she bore children from age about 47 to about 67, which is very unlikely, and also that she died before the birth of her youngest child in 1809, which is impossible.
I added birth records for 7 of 9 children. None found for John who died asan infant, nor Elijah, the last child. Perhaps he is actually the child of an older “sibling”
