Biography

Sarah was born 29 Jun 1845 in Blue Knob, Juniata Township, Blair, Pennsylvania, United States. She was the daughter of John Whetstone Diehl and Mary (Ritchey) Diehl.


Sarah died 6 Jun 1920 at the home of her daughter Margaret, married to William Bowser

Mrs. Sarah Stombaugh, wife of Joseph Stombaugh, of Blue Knob, died Sunday night at 11 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Bowser at Johnstown. Mrs. Stombaugh, who had been in poor health for some months, had gone to the home of her daughter one week previously to take treatment from a Johnstown physician, but her vitality was too far ebbed to respond to treatment and she passed away at the above stated hour. Mrs. Bowser whose maiden name was Diehl, was aged 74 years, 11 months and 8 days, She is survived by her aged husband, now past 84 years of age, and seven children as follows: Mrs. William Bowser at whose home she died: Mrs. Amanda Stiffler of Cherry Tree, Mrs. George Hazlett, John, William, Frank and Jesse M., all of Blue Knob, She is also survived by one brother, Daniel Diehl of Ben's Creek, 60 grandchildren and 55 great grandchildren. She was married when a, little past 14 years of age, and had thus lived past the sixtieth, anniversary of their marriage. She was a life-long and devoted member of the Mt. Morin United Brethren church at Blue Knob. The body was taken to her late home yesterday. Funeral services will be conducted in Mt. Moriah church tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, services to be in charge of her pastor, the Rev. A. B. Taylor of, East Freedom. Interment in the cemetery adjoining the church.
