Biography

He married (1) Mary A. McRight (his 1st cousin), abt 1854 in Franklin Co., Alabama.

Many researchers say he married (2) Eliza C. Scruggs about 1878 and that she's William's mother due to the 1910 census for William, which shows his family as well as Eliza listed as his mother. However, Mary is still listed as Benjamin's wife on the 1880 census which includes William born in 1879, so it's doubtful that he married Eliza in 1878 or that she's the mother of William S. Dill. More likely is that Benjamin married Eliza after 1880, maybe when William was still young enough that he called Eliza his "mother" when actually she was his "step-mother."

He married (3) Lucy Caroline Galen, March 20, 1887 in Lawrence County, Alabama.

Military Service: Confederate States of America 1861-1865 - A Soldier in Co. "L" of the 4th Alabama Cavalry under the command of General Phillip David Roddy of Lawrence County, Alabama[1]
1880 US Census in Franklin, Alabama, USA[2]

His gravestone and the 1900 census show his birth year as 1833. However, it appears that he was actually born in 1835 per the 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 census records.
