I just wanted to give you a few suggestions to get the most out of your TAGS
It's best to enter a value that is going to be recognized across the website. So, if you put in the TAG a surname like Smith or Jones then when you click on it, you'll find some helpful information as well as other genealogists who are also researching that surname. You can also enter locations like ONTARIO or CANADA and add info like childhood home, etc.
When you're following a tag, you're alerted to any new activity through your Daily Feed email. Following a tag doesn't commit you to actively participate in a project or to helping others in any specific way. However, people may reach out to you to collaborate with them when you share the same tags!
Due to the nature of Wikitree, we will be unable to confirm your membership if you are using an alias. If you'd like to "anonymize" your name, you can use Anonymous or an initial for either your first or last name, but not both, please.
For more information on how to use each of the naming fields see this page: Name Fields

Thanks for visiting Wikitree and be sure to ask for help if you need it!
Our first email to you included some links that will help you get started on Wikitree, which Im sure is not like any other genealogy site youve used. It is different because our goal is to have one profile per person and that means we all work together, as a BIG collaborative team!
What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have any research youd like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree? If so, when you confirm your email address, youll see a volunteer option on your profile page. Leave us a short message about your genealogical interests, then a volunteer will confirm your membership soon thereafter and youll be on your way!
Welcome to our family, we are glad you've joined us.
Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.
Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.
If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.
Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.
Shirley Dalton, WikiTree Mentor

Take a look at our Question of the Week: Have you stumbled upon any strange deaths of your ancestors? Bizarre? Peculiar? Unusual? and share a little something about your search.
