Benjamin was born on 30 Sep 1757 in Ashford, Windham County, Connecticut, the son of Ebenezer Dimmock and Mary E (Keyes) Dimick. Benjamin Dimick is listed as a Serjeant in Col. Samuel H. Parson's Regiment where he began service in 1776. After the siege of Boston, they marched under Washington to New York and continued in that vicinity from April to the close of the year. They assisted in fortifying the City, were ordered Aug. 24, to the lines around Brooklyn and engaged in the Battle of Long Island, Aug. 27, and in retreat from Long Island on night of Aug. 29. They were caught in the panic retreating from New York on Sept. 15. They were present with the army at White Plains on Oct. 28th. They remained on the Hudson, in the vicinity of Peekskill, under Gen. Heath, until their term of service expired, Dec. 31, 1776.He died on 2 Aug 1850 in Wilton, Saratoga County, New York.
Benjamin Dimmick served in the American Revolution--as a Corporal in Captain Gallut's Company, Parsons Regiment in the 10th Continental Infantry from January-December, 1776 (found on page 100 of a Roll of 11/06/1776 in the 3rd source below); as a Sergeant in the 2nd Connecticut Infantry listed 4/21/1777, and as an Ensign in 1780 (listed on page 158 of the document referenced in the third source below). My notes show him transferred to the Third Connecticut as Lieutenant in 1781 and retired on 1/1/1783 (found on page 336 of the 3rd source below)!
Benjamin lived to be 92 and is buried in the Dimmick Cemetery in Wilton, Saratoga County, New York. He and his wife, Hopeful, Elmore Dimmick had seven children: Percival, Orpha, Hiram, Jiles, Ira, and Marilla Dimick Losee.
