James was born on 5 November 1854. He was the son of William Dingle and Jane Pomery.

Family migrated on the ship 'Henry Moore' to Adelaide, South Australia on the ship 'Henry Moore' arriving on 13 September 1857 . The family members were William Dingle (43) (Miner), Jane (Pomery) (42), John (11), William Henry (7), Elizabeth (4) and James Henry (2); also Sarah and Jane . [2]

Dingle-966 and Dingle-100 appear to represent the same person because: Although birth information is slightly different, both profiles state that he arrived in South Australia on the Henry Moore in 1857, and have wife Mary Jane Tonkin.
