The parents of Aeltje Dircks are not known. Aeltje Dircks was born in the Netherlands in about 1572. Her birthplace probably was Vollenhove in Overijssel, because her marriage banns describe her as being "of Vollenhoven." [1][2]

Death
Aeltje Dircks died in the Netherlands on 6 November 1634, at 62 years of age.[2]
Disputed Data
Some online family trees (and an earlier version of this profile) state that Aeltje was born about 1584-1585 in Netherlands and died 10 May 1610 in Dordrecht, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands when she was about 25 or 26 years old. The original source of the birth information has not been determined; the 1584 birthdate is inconsistent with the age given on her marriage banns in 1596.[6][5] The supposed death date of 10 May 1610 also is not supported by any known records; it coincides with the documented date of the birth of her son Barent.
Some genealogies, including an earlier version of this WikiTree profile, state that Aeltje emigrated to New Netherland, arriving in New Amsterdam in 1658. This purported immigration appears to be an error, resulting from a conflation error with another Aeltje Dircks, who married William Traphagen in New Amsterdam in 1658.

The 1584 birthdate, 1604 marriage date, and 10 May 1610 death date that appear on this profile are pervasive within Ancestry Family Trees. I searched that site only for the name "Aeltje Dircks" and found numerous instances of these dates (sometimes also with 1658 immigration to New Netherland) for the woman who married Jacob Kool (who was sometimes Arentsen, sometimes Barentsen). Most sources cited were other Ancestry Family Trees or OneWorld Tree. Exceptions were that sometimes her son Barent's birth record was linked as her birth record or her son's marriage record was linked as her marriage record. No "real" records supported the birth, marriage or death dates. The immigration date was sometimes linked to a record for the Aeltje Dircks who married William Traphagen in 1658.
Note that the 10 May 1610 date given for her death on those records is the date of the baptism of Barent, son of Aeltje Dircks and Jacob Arents [Kool].
Based on what I found on Ancestry.com, this profile is intended to represent the woman who married Jacob Arentsen. This is not a different person. There are no known sources to support the dates of 1584 for birth, 1604 for marriage, and 1610 for death. These dates should be removed from the profile data fields, but they need to be discussed in the biography section because the data from these widely shared family trees is sure to get submitted again and again.
Michelle, I agree with Steven Mix's perception (based on note he left in Dircks-24 ) that the reference to immigration in 1658 in the Dircks-24 profile probably indicates conflation with Dircks-10, who was married in New Amsterdam in 1658 and died before her husband's remarriage in 1661.
I edited Steven's note in Dircks-24 to include a link to Dircks-10.
Before merge can take place, the place and dates of Aeltje Dircks' birth and death need to be clarified. Dordrecht lies not in Zuid (a non-existant place), but rather, in modern-day Zuid-Holland, a province of the Netherlands. The data for this Aeltje conflict completely with the data of the other Aeltje Dircks, to be merged into her. Are they truly the same woman? are their husbands the same men? have two different couples with somewhat simliar surnames been amalgamated into one profile here?
Please remove the Current surname van de Cuyl from Aeltje Dircks' profile before approval of the suggested merge with Aeltje Dircks can be given. No Dutch woman in those days ever bore her husbands surname. She was known only by her maiden name, usually her patronymic (Dircks in fact means [daughter] of Dirk.) Her LNAB is correct - Dircks; that should also be her Current surname. Standard practice at WikiTree, in fact, favours the usage of the maiden name as Current surname for Dutch woman, certainly up to the generation born after 1664, when the British took over Nieuw Nederland. And Aeltje never even left the Netherlands!
i do not know when Aeltje Dircks died. I only have her birth and marriage dates, which are taken from the Amsterdam Registry of Baptisms, Weddings and Burials. Dircks-24 & Dircks-95 seem to me to be two different persons, as also do their respective husbands. No sources are given at the profiles of Dircks-24, her husband and her son; nothing supports their existance, nor their being identical to Dircks-95 and her family. The alternative surname Kool at Dircks-24 and her husband's profile seems to have been recently added in order to give the impression of their being identical to Dircks-95 and her husband, which i sincerely doubt. Albertus
Dircks-24 & Dircks-95 are possibly two different people. If Dircks-24 died in 1610 in Dordrecht then would be impossible she arrived in New York in 1658 at age 73.
Marked unmerged match for now. Also, both profiles have a ppp to avoid merging until there is further information is obtained.
Note that the 10 May 1610 date given for her death on those records is the date of the baptism of Barent, son of Aeltje Dircks and Jacob Arents [Kool].
