From Find a Grave: "Pauline Hammett, 89, of Vienna, formerly of Pennsboro, departed this life Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at Parkersburg.
Mrs. Hammett was born June 9, 1915, at Deep Valley in Tyler County, W.Va., to the late C. Delbert and Ollie Mason Doak. She was a graduate of Pennsboro High School and Salem College. During her teaching career of 34 years, she had been employed by Ritchie County Schools as a speech and English teacher at Cairo High School, Harrisville High School and retired after many years of instructing sophomore and senior English at Pennsboro High School. "Mrs. Hammett," as she was known by students at Pennsboro High School, was not only a teacher, but she was also the "coach's wife." From time to time she washed uniforms, prepared food for athletes, waited for her husband, Fenton Gale Hammett, "the coach" to come home from athletic events and helped "coach" her own sons in the proper use of the English language. She was involved in the Pennsboro Community as evidenced by her membership in the Womens Club and the Order of the Eastern Star. She held professional membership in the Ritchie County Education Association and West Virginia Education Association. Last but certainly not least in her life, was her membership at the Pennsboro Church of Christ and her attendance at the Grand Central Church of Christ, Vienna. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John "Ben" and Kathy Hammett, Surprise, Ariz., and F. Gale Jr. and Emma Hammett, Vienna; grandchildren, Walter Hammett, Durham, N.C., John Hammett, Huntingtown, Md., Gale Hammett III, Durham, Susan Yates, Beckley, W.Va., and Anne Davidson, Vienna; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hammett was preceded in death by her husband, Fenton Gale Hammett, a teacher and coach at Pennsboro High School for many years.
A private service of remembrance will be held by the family at a later date with interment in the Mount Harmony Masonic Cemetery at Pennsboro. At the request of her family, memorials in the name of Pauline Hammett may be made to the Pennsboro High School Scholarship Fund, c/o Box 575, Pennsboro, WV 26415.
Arrangements entrusted to the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, WV.
