Pension records show he was sent to hospital at Camp Winder, at Richmond, Virginia with diarrhoea, July 1864, and was at home on sick furlough from August 15, 1864, to February 1865. Rejoined command at Charlotte, North Carolina 15 March 1865. Wounded at Bentonville, North Carolina 18 March, 1865. In Greensboro, North Carolina hospital close of war."[3]

John Daniel Dodd left the following in his note book: "Came back to Georgia, farmed two years at which time had two daughters, then went to Atlanta(Georgia) to educate my children, where was borned in 1873 Eva Carr and after twins Theodocia Ola and Theodora Ora. After that one other Barbara Bethenis. The three last died in infancy. Thomas M.died at the age of six years and six months. I engaged in the mercantile business, did moderately well, considering have no help for as my girls got out of school they were then marriageable and married off. They did well, all have families and my son is Supervisor of Central Georgia Railroad, Supervisor of Bridges."
