Biography

Frances Dodson was born the 5th of March 1774 in Granville county, North Carolina. Frances was the daughter of William Dodson and Frances Gilliam.

Frances is left bequest in the will of her father William Dodson.[1]

Frances married William Turner on the 30th of December 1791 in Granville county, North Carolina.[2]

Frances' husband William Turner died sometime prior to the 21st of December 1811 in Wilson county, Tennessee. The Inventory of William's estate was taken on the 21st of December 1811 and the sale of the Estate of William Turner was held on the 21st of January 1812 in Wilson county, Tennessee. The following "Turner's" purchased items at the sale: Frances Turner; Elizabeth Turner; Wylie Turner; Edmund Turner, James Turner; Fanny Turner; Thomas Turner and Betsey Turner".[3]

Frances married William New about 1814. No marriage record has been located.

Frances' husband William New died the 23rd of April 1837, in Wilson county, Tennessee.[4]

Frances appears in the 1840 Federal census in Wilson county, Tennessee as head of household. Frances' household appears as follows: one female age 15 thru 19; one female age 40 thru 49; and 8 slaves.[5]

Frances, age 76, appears in the 1850 Federal census in Wilson county, Tennessee. Frances is the only person living in her household.[6]

Frances died the 2nd of November 1857 in Wilson county, Tennessee. Frances was buried in the Turner Cemetery, Wilson county, Tennessee.[7]
