The Dodson family came to the "New World" from England and may have been among the approximately 3000 surviving settlers at Jamestown. As settlements proliferated, the U.S. was born, and the nation expanded, Dodsons found their way from the Rappahannock north into Maryland, west to Kentucky and Tennessee, and south to the Carolinas, continuing outward from there. The Wayne County, Kentucky Dodsons came there from Richmond and Patrick Counties, Virginia. Dodson families traditionally honored their forebears by keeping their names alive generation after generation. Individuals are, consequently, sometimes easily confused.
Birth
Leonard L. Dodson was born about 1774 in Farnham Parish, Richmond Virginia to George Dodson (1737-1825) and Elizabeth Margaret Reid (1741). [1]

Leonard Dodson married Mary Randals on July 14, 1792 in Patrick, Virginia. [2] Their memorials at Find A Grave say they had 13 children.
He and his wife were over 45 yrs old, with 5 sons and 7 daughters in Wayne, Kentucky in 1820. [3]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Leonard by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
Another problem: the FindaGrave link is indexed as Leonard L. Dodson, b.1774. But it links to Leonard L. Dobson, b.1806. Same wife and children for both. His father's Wiki profile says George and John were the two oldest sons; Leonard was the youngest. I think this DOB is off by about 30 years.
Sorry, but there's a problem with some of the data:
His DOB, if correct, makes his father only 14 and his mother 5 yrs old when he was born. At least two of the sources cited, the 1850 and 1870 censuses, list his DOB as 1806. That's more in line with his parents and siblings.
Who is Mary Neville, whose records appear to be the basis for his DOB and DOD? She should be explained in the bio.
Dodson-142 and Dodson-1108 appear to represent the same person because: These profiles share the same birth/death dates and children. They appear to be the same person, despite some differences.
Dodson-1125 and Dodson-142 appear to represent the same person because: These profiles seem to be the same name with the same parents, but the dates of birth & death would almost suggest they are father & son. This merge request should be completed ONLY if the research shows them to be the same.
