DODSON, RALEIGH was born 6 Feb 1807, probably in Va., & moved to Maury Co., Tenn. with many family members and neighbors soon after his birth. He was the son of David & Frances Fitzgerald Dodson.

On 30 Aug 1831 he married Miss Sarah A Witherspoon and they became parents of David W., Beverly A, Mary Lou and several infants who died early. In 1841, Sarah died perhaps as a result of the birth of twin babies, both of whom also died, and a few months later.

On 3 Nov 1841, Raleigh married Lucinda Witherspoon, sister of his first wife. Their children included: Frances P., who died young, and Raleigh P., later a prominent citizen in Columbia. It is interesting that the father died on the day that this last son was born: 6 Sep 1844.
