Biography

Thomas Dodson was born the 15th April 1797 in Virginia. Thomas was the son of George Dodson III and Martha Lockhart.

Thomas married Polly (Mary) Morrow on the 10th April 1821 in Wayne county, Kentucky.[1]

Thomas appears in the 1850 Federal census in Vermilion county, Illinois. Thomas' household appears as follows: Thomas age 54; Mary age 54; Jesse age 19; James age 17; Frances age 15; John age 13; and Thomas age 7.[2]

Thomas appears in the 1860 Federal census in Boone county, Indiana. Thomas' household appears as follows: Thomas age 63; Mary age 63; and Thomas age 16.[3]

Thomas appears in the 1870 Federal census in Boone county, Indiana. Thomas' household appears as follows: Thomas age 72; and Mary age 73.[4]

Thomas' wife Mary (Polly) Dodson died on the 15th August 1872, in Boone county, Indiana.[5]

Thomas married his second wife, the widow Barbara Ellen O'Tool on the 5th September 1873 in Vermilion county, Illinois.[6]

Thomas appears in the 1880 Federal census in Boone county, Indiana. Thomas' household appears as follows: Thomas age 94; and under column 15 - sick and disability the enumerator marked for Thomas: " General Debility"; wife, Barbara age 51, born Ohio; and William T. O'Tool age 21; listed as step-son.[7]

Thomas died on the 21st June 1883 in Boone county, Indiana. Thomas was buried in the Eagle Creek Regular Baptist Cemetery, Eagle Village, Boone county, Indiana.[8]

Thomas married . He died in 1883, aged ninety years, and is buried in Eagle Creek Cemetery beside his companion. Nancy was married to William Davenport. She died in 1854. Margaret resides in Kentucky. Irena, married to John Vaughn, is yet living. George married Rebecca Headspeth, and lives in Virginia. Martha married Aaron Philps; both are dead; died in Illinois. Rual married Mary Dickerson; both died in Illinois. John died in Virginia at the age of nineteen years. Mary married Elijah Dickerson ; both died in Boone County, and are buried at the Eagle Creek Cemetery. Juda married John Kinman, and resides in Missouri. Robert, married to Mary White, resides in Worth Township, where he has lived over fifty years; owns a splendid farm, and enjoys the confidence of the people with whom he has lived so long. He too, as well as his aged companion, know all about the early life in Boone County. They both belong to the Regular Baptist Church, at Eagle Creek. Jemima, married to Stephen Lane in 1839, is yet living. Mr. Lane is yet living.

Dodson-5288 and Dodson-2192 appear to represent the same person because: Both men are Thomas Dodson born on the same date, both born in Virginia. Both men have the same father. The only difference is the year of death. Thomas Dodson-2192 is sourced with census data and Find A Grave with photo of tombstone. The only source for death of Thomas Dodson-5288 is "Obituary of Thomas Dodson" with no source for obituary location. Thomas Dodson-2192 is the father of George C. Dodson. George Dodson appears in the 1850 Federal census in the household next to Thomas Dodson-2192. These men are duplicates.

Dodson-4799 and Dodson-2192 appear to represent the same person because: Both men have the same birth dates and both born in Virginia. Both are married to the same woman and both men died on the same date and same place. They are obvious duplicates and need to be merged to eliminate duplication.
