Lucy Mayfield Dodson was born the 30th of September 1812 in Caswell county, North Carolina. Lucy was the daughter of Stephen Dodson and Mary Smith.
Lucy married Jacob A.Ramsour on the 3rd of October 1833 in Caswell county, North Carolina.[1] The notice of Lucy's marriage appeared as follows: "MARRIED . . .In Milton on 3d inst. Jacob Ramsour, Esq. of Lincolnton, to Miss Lucy M. daughter of Stephen Dodson,Esq. of the former place . . ."[2]
Lucy is named in the will of her father, Stephen Dodson as follows: " . . . Item 6th I give and bequeath to my daughter Lucy Ramsour the negroes with their increase and other property heretofore placed by me in her possession to her and her heirs forever. . ."[3]
Lucy appears in the 1850 Federal census in Lincoln county, North Carolina in the household of her husband. Jacob's household appears as follows: Jacob Ramsour age 42, occupation, Merchant; Lucy M. Ramsour age 38; J.L. Ramsour age 40, no occupation; M.L. Killian age 22, occupation, clerk; R.F. Rankin, age 21, occupation, clerk; May S. Ramsour age 15; S.D. Ramsour (male) age 13; David Ramsour age 11; Lucy Ramsour age 7; Fanny Ramsour age 5; Charles Ramsour age 3; and E. A. Ramsour (female) age 1.[4]
Lucy died the 29th of November 1859 in Lincolnton, Lincoln county, North Carolina. Lucy was buried in Saint Lukes Episcopal Church Cemetery, Lincolnton, Lincoln county, North Carolina.[5]
Notice of Lucy's death appeared as follows: "DIED . . . In Lincolnton, on the 29th ult, Mrs. Lucy M.Ramseur wife of Mr. J.H. Ramseur, aged 47 years . . ."[6]
