Jane Dodson was born in Claiborne County TN USA in 1817. Married Jesse Roberts Sept. 15, 1834 in Iowa Territory. They arrived in Oregon Territory Oct. 25, 1847 and settled at Roberts Creek on Donatiion Land Claim No. 1827[1]. They were the founders of Canyonville in Douglas Co. OR, where they owned and operated the Roberts hotel. Jesse went to California in the gold rush of 1849. He was gone a year and made a success of his venture in the gold fields. He died on Nov. 28, 1861 and Jane on Oct. 9, 1880 and both are buried in the Pioneer Cemetery of Canyonville, Douglas, OR, USA. There are ten children listed: Nelson, Emma Jane, George Washinton, Napolean, Jasper, Mary Ann, Amanda J., Jacob, Newton, and Jesse Jr.
