Biography

Daniel Dodson was born on the 29th of April, 1769, very likely in Virginia but he could have been born in North Carolina, as his parents, Joshua and Ruth Dodson had left Fauquier Co., Virginia in 1762 for Halifax Co., Va, but no records have been found in Halifax Co., Va for Joshua Dodson, and before 1782, Joshua Dodson is in Surry Co., North Carolina.[1]

Daniel married Sarah Peters in January, 1792, in Pendleton District, South Carolina.

Daniel and Sarah appear in the 1820 Federal census in Morgan County, Georgia in Capt. Tolberts District. Daniel's household appears as follows in the census: 1 male age under 10; 4 males ages 10 thru 15; 1 male age 45 and over; 2 females ages 16 thru 25; and 1 female age 45 and over. Also appearing on the same page in the census is Edmund Dodson.[2]

Daniel and Sarah appear in the 1830 Federal census in Fayette County, Georgia. Daniel's household appears as follows in the census: 2 males ages 15 to 20; 1 male age 60 to 70; 1 female age 15 to 20; and 1 female age 50 to 60. Also appearing on the same page in the census are Elijah Dodson and Edmond Dodson.[3]

Daniel and Sarah appear in the 1840 Federal census in Fayette County, Georgia. Daniel's household appears as follows in the census: 1 male age 70 and under 80; 1 female age 15 and under 20; and 1 female age 60 and under 70.[4]

Daniel died on the 25th of February, 1848, and is buried in the Elam Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery (now known as Forest Park Cemetery), in Forest Park, Clayton County, Georgia.[5]
