Biography

James was born in 1856 at Richmond, Lower Canada, which became Québec. He was listed with his parents in the 1861 Canada census at Belleville, Ontario which says he was age 5.

He married Margaret Smith about 1883, exact date not found. They had two children: Bertha, born about December 1883, and John, born 1 March 1885 at Thurlow, Ontario.

The 1891 Canada census at Thurlow Township, Ontario, said that James was born in Ontario.

James died on 3 September 1933 at Thurlow, Ontario. The death certificate said he was born at Richmond, Québec and his parents were John Donaldson and Agnes Thornton, both born in Scotland. He was buried at Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, Ontario.
