Biography

John was living in Minnesota when his younger brother was born.^[1]He had taken over his father's farm in Wellington Township, Renville County, Minnesota, when he was 26.^[2]

Ten years later, he was working as a land salesman in Ray, North Dakota.^[3] Ten years later, his mother Margaret, born in Ireland, and his brother Charlie and nephew John Ruddy, born in Minnesota,^[4] had joined him on his farm in North Dakota.^[5]

John married Alice McGowan in Benson, Minnesota when he was about 50 years old.^[6]They returned to John's farm in Ray, North Dakota, after their marriage.^[7] By 1930, John and Alice had three children.^[8] Another child was born before 1940, and Alice's widowed mother came to live with them.^[9]

John died at age 83 in Williams County, North Dakota.^[10]
